Shoutcast v2 and iOS 5 (choppy stream)

Postby BG2011 » Tue Dec 06, 2011 3:52 am

I am using NimbleKit v1.9.8 with xcode 4.2 and iOS 5 developing a Shoutcast stream Radio App.
It was working fine when my streaming host was using Shoutcast v1.9

The host has upgraded their server to Shoutcast v2
But now the stream in my radio app is very choppy, and I am unable to read parse the metadata from the stream (song title).
(Note: the stream is working fine with other clients, such as: iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real Player.)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Blazeman might be able to offer more on this but maybe you could try setMaximumBuffersCount(count) to increase the buffered stream before playing it.

What format is the audio? Can you give me the stream URL so I can try in my code. (PM it to me if you don't want it public)

All of the streams I used on't use standard shout cast servers so I can't say for sure without your stream sample :)

Hi Blazemen

As HalfMoon suggested, I had tried the setMaximumBuffersCount(count) with different suggested count values from the doc API.
Did not resolve the issue..

My stream is in MP3 available at http://fire.wavestreamer.com:4863/

Thank you!

I'm seeing this when looking at what type of stream it is

Content-Type: misc/ultravox

I think this is what's causing the issues. Since NK only supports AAC and MP3 when you are getting the "Content-Type: misc/ultravox" back it's throwing things for a loop.

I'd check out with the streaming provider to see how they can get that changed back to mp3

I just checked the header info via Winamp Player
It shows Content-Type: audio/mpeg

So I would think NimbleKit would recognize it as MP3 format ???

Network received: 571806 bytes
Server: Ultravox/2.1 SHOUTcast v2.0.1.36
Content-Type: audio/mpeg
Ultravox sync: 244 messages, 0 desyncs
Ultravox Data Message: 0x7000
Ultravox SID/AvgBR/MaxBR: 1/56000/56000
Stream name: Bashde - Armenian Christian Internet Radio
Current title: Mary Balian - Bashdenk - When Peace, Like A River_ Hokvooy

That was where I got my info from. That's the only thing I notice that could cause an issue off the top of my head

How strange?
My Winamp shows Content-Type: audio/mpeg
(on my Windows machine.)

I downloaded the Mac version of Winamp on my Mac, but it does not have Play URL capability, so I can't check it.

I opened a ticket with my Shoutcast stream provider...
Maybe he can help.

Thank you for all the help.

My screenshot is from my windows machine...

Winamp for the Mac is still beta I think. Very lacking too... I was hoping for at least the play form URL so it would help me troubleshoot my streams... oh well ;)

Let me know what your Shoutcast peeps say.
